What do you get when you pair a feisty heroine fighting her demons from a previous relationship of domestic violence, and a romantic hero in a wheelchair looking for someone to rescue?
About Bruised (Book 1):
When Baltimore Homicide Detective Lisa Swanson and her partner Dee Quarter are called to investigate the murder of Ernest Juarez, Lisa meets wheelchair bound Jake Jenson, a man determined to find his best friend’s killer at all costs. Jake is instantly attracted to the standoffish Lisa yet can’t understand why Lisa keeps him at arm’s length.
What Jake feels is resistance toward him, is really Lisa’s distrust of men caused by a previous relationship centered on domestic violence. Lisa desperately searches for Ernest’s killer while fighting her feelings for Jake and trying to mend the pain from her past.
Jake just might be the man of Lisa’s dreams, but will she let shame and fear stand in the way of a new love?

Excerpt:
“Why are you always sniffing me?” She picked up the photo of Jake standing in a tuxedo with a petite blonde-haired woman.
“Why are you always wearing that perfume?”
“Wow.” Lisa moved her hand over Jake and the blonde woman. “You look so different standing. I didn’t realize you were so tall.”
“I’m six-three.”
Mmm.
“I know this sounds ridiculous but seeing this picture of you is so weird. I mean, I only know you from the chair.” She stared at the photo. “I guess I never pictured how you would look standing and walking.”
“Does seeing that picture make you see me differently?”
“No, it just…” Her heart fluttered. “It’s just—”
“Arousing?” he whispered. “To see me standing? To see me in a position of strength opposed to being a cripple?”
“You’re not a cripple. I’ve never thought of you like that.”
“Lisa.” He chuckled. “You’ve gotta get a sense of humor where I’m concerned.” He hit her thigh. “I’m just fucking with you. But seeing me standing does something to you, right?”
She swallowed. “Not the way you’re taking it.”
“Oh, I don’t know about that.” He parked his wheelchair against the bookshelf.
“What are you doing?”
He put one hand on the shelf and the other on his chair. “Ah.” He brought himself up.
“Jake.”
Oh, God, this is so arousing.
Just seeing Jake at full-height with that intense glare focused on her made her wetter than Niagara Falls.
He placed his feet firmly on the carpet. “Mmm.” He closed his eyes.
“Wait.” She set the picture down and grabbed him around the waist. “I don’t want you to fall and hurt yourself.”
“No, it’s okay.” He gently pushed her away. “I wanna show you.”
“You don’t have to show me anything.”
He took delicate steps. “I want…to show you that I’m a man.”
“Come on, this is silly. I know you’re a man.”
“But you like what you see in that picture, don’t you?” He inched toward her. “I see how you looked at that picture just now. I want you to look at me like that.”
“Jake.”
“See?” He chuckled between breaths. “I still got it.” He continued toward her.
“Please. I’m nervous you’ll hurt yourself.”
“It’s just a little pain.” He made it to her. “It’s worth it to see the look on your face.” He sniffed her neck. “To hold you and show you that I can do anything any man can. I just need a little more time to do it.”

We all want love, but sometimes love can be a difficult thing to
acquire and keep long lasting. Victoria Sutter, a divorcee, understands this
concept better than most. She was once so in love that nothing else mattered,
but even that love could not hold up to the ills of the outside world and the
insecurity of her fragile heart.

Kemington Sutter, on the other hand, has never and will never
stop loving Victoria like his last breath. With this in mind, he is willing to
do whatever it takes to fortify Victoria and show her that what they had can be
reborn and everlasting.

Lillian MacKenzie Rhine (“Lilly Mac”) writes in several genres
ranging from paranormal to historical. She believes that the possibilities of
creation should not be limited to just one category, but allow the story and
characters to dictate where the journey leads. Being a beta reader for several
years has allowed her to write her material with the reader in mind giving her
books a more realistic and relatable approach.

Her debut novella, Memoirs of a Succubus, is a loose rendition of

her life portrayed into a paranormal format. She has gone on to write a steamy,
vampire romance novel, Winter’s Island, two months after her debut release with
many more works in progress releasing about every two months. Her website is
also full of free reads and interesting posts that are enjoyed by many genders,

Synopsis:

Excerpt

“Hey,” John murmured, cradling my face between his large hands.

“Hi,” I replied. There was a slight tremor to my voice caused by the nostalgia that being near him evoked. John. He had been the only thing that kept me sane when it felt like everything around me was falling apart. Now there was so much upheaval around me, I didn’t know where that left us. The conflicted look in his eyes as he looked into mine, further intensifying things. His eyes kept wandering to the almost faded bruise near my mouth from being manhandled. God, I don’t want his pity. Anything but pity, please!

“I don’t know what to say right now. I’m just happy to see you,” he finally spoke.

“I’m glad you’re here too.” I tried to smile through the crack in my heart. Once again John resorted to silence as he continued to hold me. Raheem Devaughn sang about his Luv Drug while my insides were churning with clashing emotions. I wanted to be consumed with the comfort I found in John’s arms, but part of me felt like I should keep some distance between us until I figured out what the hell I wanted. John’s words interrupted my emotional caucus.

“Is it ok if I kiss you?” He leaned in closer before I could even answer. Not yet touching my lips, but close enough that I could smell spearmint every time he took a breath. Close enough for me to make out the hints of amber and greens that tinted his hazel eyes. Wasn’t I just thinking about distance or something? Chile’ Please! I nodded my response and then closed the distance between us. John buried both hands into my carefully styled curls, insuring that I couldn’t escape his embrace. Like I even wanted to.

Our lips slowly did a lip caressing dance before he tentatively brought his tongue into the mix. I parted my lips, allowing him in and breathed a contented sigh when he deepened the kiss. Wrapping my arms around his neck, I held him closer, taking in all of his warmth. He kissed me slowly but thoroughly enough to send errant shivers down my spine. Before things progressed to an out of control level, he pulled away. Much like the kisses when I was in high school that were harmless, but still left me breathless.

Be sure to take advantage of the Black Friday Deal!

Jade’s favorite pastime…

images (2)Jade is a simple creature with complicated tastes. When she’s not immersed in her work, or in a tug-o-war love triangle, there are a few things that she loves to do. She’s a journalist at heart, but her true passion is listening to music.

She learned to appreciate a variety of music at an early age. Her otherwise strict grandmother had an eclectic music collection. Saturday mornings while she cleaned, she would blast Soca & Calypso tunes that reminded her of her Jamaican roots, Aretha Franklin, and even a few salsa tunes. Jade also garnered an appreciation for big band and swing artists from the old black and white films that they used to watch together. She expanded on this interest by joining the school band as a baritone sax player. Every now and then, she pulls out her old horn and blows it out.

19331-800wIn 2002 Jade was 15 years old. Having a social life was a no go, so music became her entertainment. Destiny’s Child, Beyonce, Greenday, and Justin Timberlake performed for her on the regular. Growing up in the heart of Miami, she was no stranger to the heavy bass beats of rappers like Trina, and Trick Daddy. Even though she had to sneak these explicit songs via her iPod earbuds, she spent countless nights in front of her mirror dancing to her local stars.

She also spent most summers in Brooklyn, NY with her Aunt Vivian and cousin Jackie. There she developed a deep infatuation with Hip Hop and Reggae. The chrishell-61Notorious BIG was notably one of BK’s most revered rappers and became Jade’s favorite, his Sky’s the Limit is one of her all time favorites.

Coming into adulthood was a pivotal time in Jade’s life. The passing of her grandmother, when Jade was 18, images (4)revcame as a hard blow to her already sensitive psyche. Besides her best friend Colleen and her then boyfriend/fiance Evan, music was what she used to cope. Faced with the challenges of raising her younger brother, starting college, and entering into her first serious relationship, all while mourning her loss, she needed an escape. She submerged herself  in dark and meaningful songs with lyrics she could identify with, and party tunes that allowed her to dance her cares away.

Color of Love – Blog Hop and Giveaway

ColorofLove_Bloghop

Today I’m participating in the Color of Love Blog Hop. My original plan was to discuss my book, Jaded Hearts, and why I decided to write an interracial romance novel. Well, scratch that! I’ve decided to list some of the IR reads that I have enjoyed reading.

50 Shades of Jungle Fever and Exit Strategy by LV Lewis

Don’t be thrown off by the name. What started as a parody turned out to be a sexy, funny, exciting tale of romance between a successful venture capitalist, Tristan White, and a fledgling business owner, Keisha Beale. The relationship between Tristan and Keisha starts off tense, but quickly turns intense. This series is a must read. Here’s the blurb:

FIFTY SHADES OF GREY to the second power meets Keisha and Jada from the Block.

If you’ve wondered how an ethnic girl from the hood might’ve handled an arrangement with an experienced white Dominant, this is your book. If you’d like to see the sexiest TWIN DOMS in a contemporary romance series in interracial relationships, this is most definitely your book.

Aspiring recording studio owners, Keisha Beale and Jada Jameson, score a rare meeting with venture capitalist Tristan White, and are thrust into a world beyond their wildest imaginations.

Street-wise Keisha is startled to realize she wants this rich white man, despite the certainty that he is out of her league. Unable to resist Keisha’s sassy, irreverent, and fiercely independent spirit, Tristan knew from day one he wanted her, too–as his first African American submissive.

Upper Class Jada of the Springfield Jamesons has traveled in almost the same circles as the White brothers, and has had a secret crush on Nathan White, the point guard for the Chicago Bulls, for quite some time.

Both brothers have succumbed to jungle fever, and want a little coffee in their cream.

Lured by Tristan White and his offer of fronting the capital for her business in exchange for kinky sex, Keisha finds herself with no other option. Keisha is also tortured by a demons from her past, and her inability to come to terms with them threatens to undermine the future of her business and her tumultuous, unconventional relationship with Tristan White.

Erotic, amusing, and in places hilarious, the Ghetto Girl Erotica Trilogy is a parody with a unique take on a Fifty Shades-type story that will take you even further into the BDSM world, and promises to make the vanilla original Fifty Shades Blacker.

The first two books focus on Keisha and Tristan’s romance, and the final two focus on Jada and Nathan’s.

Mi Carina and Mi Carino by Sienna Mynx

I must preface this by saying I love hot latin men. With that being said, the hero of this book, Diego, was so hot! Sienna Mynx is a stellar story teller!  Here’s the blurb:

There is no end. There is no beginning. There is only passion and all those sinful naughty feelings caught in between. He’s not the man she thinks he is. However, Marcella Garcia is willing to take a chance. Why? Her new lovers desires take her on a passionate and sexual awakening beyond her dreams. Marcella initially convinces herself that sex with no strings is enough. It’s a gamble. When her desires bloom to love the risk becomes a costly mistake.

The Throwaway Year by Pepper Pace

This was a beautiful story. Nuff said. Here’s the blurb:

Hayden Michaels had given six years of her life to MyKell before he informed her that things hadn’t been right for a while. He had met someone else. And that’s when she opened her eyes and saw the mess that she was; financially, emotionally and physically. Never able to maintain the discipline to carry through with any weight loss goal, Hayden makes a bold decision. She will throwaway an entire year of her life; moving towards her goals with no thought of pleasure or pain. As she recreates herself Hayden meets situations and people that help her to realize her worth, namely a man who has been written off by society. But the question becomes whether Hayden can accept the faults of someone else without allowing herself to go backwards?

Jaded Hearts by Olivia Linden

Of course I’m going to talk about my story because I love it. In all the years and out of all the stories I have written, the characters in this book have been the realest to me. It’s currently on sale for .99 cents until November 30th. Here’s one my favorite reviews:

I absolutely loved this book. The way the author brought you into Jade’s world of love, lust, betrayal, forgiveness, etc. This author’s writing is so descriptive and realistic that I feel like I know these characters and are apart of the family. The various dynamics between Jade and the other characters in the book are so well done, I want to be apart of it.

The way she created two men who are complete opposites but are exactly what Jade wants at any given moment. I have recently just re read this book in preparation for the next. I literally cannot wait until the next book to see how it all ends.

This is an amazing for a first time author, for an anytime author really. 5 stars!!!

#SexySaturday excerpt: Jaded Hearts by Olivia Linden #OCT #ASMSG

My #SexySaturday post is a snippet

from my novel,  Jaded Hearts.

In this scene,  Jade has just left Julian on the dance floor to regroup after a scorching kiss.  She’s never reacted to a man the way  she does to Julian and it scares her because she seems to lose all control whenever he’s around. She’s hiding out in the women’s bathroom, trying to get a grip on her revved up libido. Continue reading
