Jenny’s Blue Velvet by Angela Carlie

Genre: Adult Romantic Thriller

Synopsis

Jenny’s stuck.

She’s tried just about every occupation she can think of and will be digging out of student debt for a very long time, but has nothing to show for it. Her everyday routine feels like a prison. And her marriage? Well, let’s just say it’s been a little one-sided lately and the money she threw down on the toys from Lover’s Erotic Store was well worth it and then some.

Jenny decides her next big step is to become a romance writer. Romance books are flying off the virtual shelves, after all. This will be her big break, her escape from the prison, and a way to freedom. Self-publishing is all the rage these days. She’ll be a best seller in no time.

When Jenny makes friends with a woman named Cassandra from the gym, she instantly decides that her new friend will JBVmake a perfect main character in her upcoming book. After the first chapter, real life begins to resemble the fiction she’s writing. Her friendship blossoms, sex with her husband turns into a daily feast, and her job gets more interesting with each chapter written.

Out of the blue, a person who is a close friend with her husband and who is dating Cassandra disappears. As the mystery behind the missing person unfolds, Jenny wonders if she might be responsible for his possible death. And if she is, what will be the consequence? What has this writing business gotten her into?

JENNY’S BLUE VELVET is a dark, humorous, romantic thriller for adults only

My review

I really enjoyed Angela Carlie’s writing. The story was funny, mysterious, creepy and romantic at times. She kept me guessing, except I never expected how the story ended. Jenny’s character was very relatable, and I found myself laughing out loud to some of her daily gripes. Cassandra’s story was intriguing and mysterious.  This story took me back to when I was younger, when I first really began my love affair with reading. Everything was new and fresh and I couldn’t wait to see what happened next. You actually get two stories in one because of how everything plays out. Even though it’s a novella, I felt satisfied, along with shocked at the end of the story.

AUTHOR BIO
I’ve lived in the state of Washington my entire life. Sure, it rains a lot, but that’s what makes it so beautiful here. I’d like to say it’s the most beautiful place on the planet, but I have yet to travel the world. Someday I’ll know for sure.

4699787I write fiction involving young people. Mainstream publishing would label my writing as YA or middle grade. Since I’m an indie author, I can skip over the labels and tell you that each one of my stories is unique, can be read and enjoyed by all ages, and almost always has a young person as the protagonist. Authors write what they know and I don’t know old yet. I may someday write about older people, but that’s so far in the future that I can’t see it yet.

A Review of Scarred Love by M.S. Brannon

First of all… I have to say that I grew up reading traditional romances, but I have fallen in love with the New Adult genre. My reason is that I tend to like a little nitty gritty thrown in with my romance.  I enjoy stories that impart an aspect of psychological angst and shows that love can come to even the most difficult people, or from the most difficult situations. This brings me to my review of Scarred Love. Continue reading

Review: Denoument

Marietta Parks believes that the only way to stop surprises from happening in life is to control your own fate. Paying attention to every detail she scripts out her own life. Leaving love, romance and children out of it. But then she meets a man who just has to be added into her story, Tobias Harden was the man of everyone’s dreams but t her he was a lovely addition to her already scripted life.

Tobias Harden was the modern day Casanova. Love was not in his vocabulary, and he was allergic to the word commitment, like poison Ivy to the bare skin. A chance kiss with Marietta Parks makes him question his single life. He was to be the best for her, and oddly enough she happens to be the only woman he wants to kiss. Tobias convinces Marietta that she needs him in her life. But after three years of marriage and life’s obstacles, he finds himself in bed with another woman. He has to convince her that he is still the man for her, especially now that she’s pregnant.

So I must say that I liked this book because it wasn’t a typical romance, but I had to shed my rose colored reading glasses to get there. I should know better! This was such a ‘real’ story. The heroin falls for a man that has a reputation for being a bit of a player. He’s a sexy movie star, what do you expect? Despite all of her inner alarms and common sense, she falls for him. He wins her heart and then… he breaks it, by cheating on her.

Somehow, this is when things get good. Now, Tobias really has to work to win his Marrietta back, and she has to put the past and her hurt aside. This is real. Love isn’t always clean cut and contained between two people. Life happens, nouns get in the way, but when you really love someone sometimes those things can be worked through. I also liked that we were able to see both characters POV, so you didn’t really have to wonder if Tobias was sincere or not. You knew that both of their hearts were in it, and they just had to find their way back.

Book Review: Legal Heat by Sarah Castille

Blurb:

Passion this hot should be illegal.

Legal Heat, Book 1

Katy Sinclair made it to the brink of partnership at her high-powered law firm with hard work, dogged determination, and the ruthless self-discipline to cultivate a conservative public image. She’s sure no one will ever know about her indiscretion—until she walks into the courtroom to find her dirty little secret is the opposing counsel in the most important case of her career.

As the managing partner in a struggling law firm, hot-shot attorney Mark Richards can’t afford any mistakes that might cost him his biggest client. Like getting involved with his beautiful, determined opponent—the mystery woman he hasn’t been able to forget. But when Katy’s quest for justice leads to death threats, Mark will sacrifice everything to protect her.

Now they’re risking their hearts…and their lives…in a race to catch a killer. Little do they know, the greatest danger lies closer to home.

Warning: The book contains explicit sex, light bondage, violence, murder, steamy shenanigans in the courtroom, naughty sexytimes in the boardroom, and an exceptionally hot hero with a versatile tie. Any objections will be overruled.

Legal Heat read like a steamy movie drama!

Alpha male: Check

Sexy Heroine: Check

Smokin hot chemistry: Check

Mystery and Suspense: Check

Psycho Ex Husband: Check

I love a great page turner and Legal Heat fit that bill to a tee. I loved how detailed the legal aspects of the story where. It gave the feel that this was a real life story that you were getting the scoop on. The chemistry between Katy and Mark was instant, but the relationship builds gradually and hot doesn’t begin to describe the sex scenes between them. Despite that steam, the other elements of the story continue to pull you in. I really enjoyed this book!!
